I have written a book on the metaphysics of agency – Options & Agency – which is under contract with Palgrave Macmillan.
This book elaborates and defends my view – originally introduced in my paper "The Agentive Modalities" – that options are a basic and irreducible element of agency, and that a theory of agentive possibility can and should be built on a foundation of options (as opposed to, for example, possible worlds, or Aristotelian powers). It further argues that such a theory constitutes the materials for the defense of a simple and non-reductive compatibilism, as opposed to the more sophisticated views defended by Hume and his successors.
