I am a clinical mental health intern in the Infectious Disease Clinic at Boston Medical Center, and an MSW candidate at Simmons University. I previously trained at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, where I was a Postgraduate Fellow in 2018-2019. My prior work was in academic philosophy. Until 2016, I was Associate Professor of Philosophy at Peking University. Prior to that, I held positions in the UK (Cambridge), Australia (ANU, Sydney), and the US (Colorado). I received my Ph.D. from Princeton in 2008. Here are my publications and syllabi. My clinical interests include substance use disorders, chronic pain, and psychodynamic theory. My philosophical interests lie primarily in the philosophy of action and the philosophy of language. I occasionally referee papers on these topics for various philosophy journals, time permitting. Email: john at jmaier.net | Twitter @John_T_Maier |
